Learning Objectives

  • Understand the loading protocols proposed by the last ITI consensus for immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone.
  • Learn about the current evidence on patient selection for immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone.
  • Understand the step-by-step process of digital planning and pre-fabrication of an immediate restoration.
  • Understand the principles of the "10 keys" treatment algorithm for successful and predictable placement of immediate implants in the esthetic zone.
  • Digital implant workflows in advanced and complex cases.
  • Digital imaging and digital surgical planning.
  • Peri-implant soft tissue management
  • Management of soft-tissue graft and substitutes (wet lab)


Program Details

The Education Week commences in Melbourne with a spotlight on patient-centered implant and prosthetic workflows. It will cover in details the development of an implant treatment plan through the integration of various available data into the digital workflow. The program also covers the classification and application of immediate loading protocols following the latest ITI consensus. Lectures will focus on soft-tissue and peri-implant soft-tissue management, leading into a hands-on session in the wet lab on harvesting and soft tissue grafting. In the digital lab, attendees will digitally plan different complex cases and will be guided on the usage of recent technology to attain the best patient-centered outcome.

Associate Prof. Stephen Chen

BDS (Malaya), MDSc (Melbourne), PhD

Stephen Chen, BDS (Malaya) '83, MDSc (Melbourne) '87, PhD '08, is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Uni- versity of Melbourne's School of Dentistry. He earned FRACDS in 1988, specializing in periodontal tissue regeneration, bone grafting, and dental implants. With over 30 peer-reviewed papers, 2 textbooks, and contributions to 6 others, he's a distinguished figure. As president-elect of ITI (International Team for Im- plantology), he oversees a global membership of 15,000+. Additionally, he's played key roles in various Australian dental associations, earning honorary life membership from AOS for his contributions.

Prof. Ivan Darby

Ivan Darby heads the Periodontics department at the University of Melbourne, overseeing the DClinDent (Perio) program. He's actively involved in various dental programs, including Grad Dip Clin Dent (implants), DDS, BDSc, and BOH periodontics and implant surgery. Ivan serves as the Director of Postgraduate Research and Education and leads Population Oral Health & Periodontics. Dr. Anthony Dickinson

Anthony Dickinson, a prosthodontist with 30 years of experience in Melbourne, graduated from The University of Melbourne and Indiana University (MSD). His leadership on the Dental Practice Board of Victoria from 1990 catalyzed changes, including mandatory infection control procedures. As Chair, he applied advertising regulation principles to dentistry, prioritizing public protection and access to quality dental care. His exceptional service earned him the Australian Dental Association's Dentistry Achievement Award in 2012 and the Order of Australia Medal in 2015. A Fellow of ITI, he served on the ITI Board of Directors and chaired the Australasian Section.

Dr. Benedicta Wong

Benedicta Wong earned her BDS in New Zealand in 2005, receiving accolades like the Ivoclar Student Research Elective Award and the Robert Lewis Cultural Cup. After working in Australia and Malaysia, she returned in 2011 to train as a periodontist, completing her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in 2013. Awarded the Australia New Zealand Academy of Periodontists' Medallion for her research on haemolytic bacteria and periodontitis, Benedicta is a member of various dental associations. Beyond dentistry, she enjoys jewelry making and holds musical qualifications from Trinity College of London.

Carolina Perez Rodriguez, a 2006 graduate from the University Complutense of Madrid, enhanced her skills in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, and implants in the UK and France. She gained membership in the Royal College of Surgeons (UK) and settled in Melbourne in 2013. While working in private practice, she com- pleted a part-time diploma in clinical dentistry in implants at The University of Melbourne. Currently, the president of the Australian Prosthodontic Society Victoria Branch, Carolina also serves in roles with the Australian Osseointegration Society. Dr. Hossam El Haddad

Hossam El Haddad, a 2006 graduate from Ain Shams University, Egypt, relocated to Australia in 2010. He obtained a Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2015 and completed a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics from the University of Melbourne in 2018. His published research focused on CAD-CAM materials in full arch implant dentistry. Currently, he works in private practice, lectures, and supervises at the University of Melbourne. Actively engaged in professional societies, he is a committee member for the Australian Prosthodontic Society and represents Victoria in its Federal Committee.

DDS, MS

Luiz H. Gonzaga, DDS, MS, is an accomplished implant dentistry professional. Graduating in 2004, he pursued specialized training at IPESP Brasilia, earning his Implant/Periodontics degree in 2009. Awarded the ITI scholarship in 2009, he completed an Implant fellowship. After earning a Master's in Prosthodontics from the University of Florida in 2014, he became a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida Center for Implant Dentistry. A sought-after speaker, ITI Fellow, and member of prestigious organizations, Dr. Gonzaga contributes to leadership development in ITI Global and is a past President of the Florida Prosthodontic Association. His dedication extends to patient care, focusing on complex implant cases.

Paolo Casentini, a University of Milan Dentistry graduate, this professional is a Senior Fellow of ITI, serving as a Milan ITI Study Club Coordinator and past Chairman of the Italian ITI section.
