Managing MIH in Children: Oxidative Pretreatment for Hypomineralised Teeth, Minimal Intervention Dentistry (MID) Techniques and Pain Management
thumb

Overview

In contemporary paediatric dentistry, Minimal Intervention Dentistry (MID) has become increasingly prominent. In this workshop, attendees will delve into essential techniques aimed at facilitating oxidative pretreatment for hypomineralised teeth. Participants will also explore biologically-driven approaches to managing caries in young patients with limited cooperation, such as the application of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) and the utilization of stainless steel crowns via the Hall technique, all without the use of local anaesthesia. In instances requiring local anaesthesia, the utilization of painless techniques facilitated by a computer-assisted delivery system like the STA Wand machine will be demonstrated. Additionally, insights into behavior management strategies will be shared, equipping practitioners to create comfortable experiences for both anxious pediatric and adult patients alike.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the theoretical basis behind oxidative pretreatment for hypomineralised teeth, explain the practical consideration for its application and demonstrate proper technique in a simulated clinical setting.
  • Explain the indications, contraindications, clinical procedures, and patient counseling considerations associated with the Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) application.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the biological rationale underlying the Hall Technique crown, incorporating case selection criteria, clinical procedural steps, and techniques for optimal crown fitting.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing computer-assisted local anaesthesia delivery systems within routine clinical practice.
  • Apply behavior management strategies to prepare and administer local anaesthesia safely, particularly in pediatric or anxious patient populations.
