About

We want you to understand how the differences we make contribute to your success. To achieve that, we want you to know our founding story. Jim Pride was a dentist and the Assistant Dean at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in California. He saw a gap in the training of new dentists who wanted to own their own practices. He recognised that they needed business training as well as clinical training. Jim established Pride Institute in the 1970s.

Twenty-five years later, an Australian dentist by the name of Phillip Palmer travelled 16,000 kms from Australia to the US to receive Pride’s management training. It was here that he met his expert trainer and mentor, Randi Goda. He loved what Pride was doing and enticed Goda, a psychologist and lawyer, to come to Australia to establish Pride Practice Australia in 2000. Palmer and Goda were in business for a year. Then they both went out on their own. Philip Palmer started Prime Practice and Randi Goda launched Momentum.

This moment in history defines the difference between Momentum and others. Randi’s years of serving the dental industry as a lawyer and psychologist meant she knew how to enhance a practice’s profits by providing business acumen and high performance mentoring. Just as a Louis Vuitton purse is made with supreme care and every Mercedes is engineered to perfection, Momentum chose quality over quantity. This meant more in-depth mentoring and tailored training. Momentum only want people who care to grow in their programs. People who want to grow their practice, their team and themselves.

In 2008, like so many dentists, Dr Toni Surace was struggling. Balancing work and a young family, she was wrestling with depression and anxiety while running her practice. The strain led to hospitalisation. She knew she needed help with her practice. She tried bits and pieces of different practice management programs but nothing felt right until Momentum.

“I remember my very first Momentum short course. I loved it. I leaned over to the person beside me and said, “One day, I’ll be doing that.” I took my whole practice through Momentum’s program and achieved high profits, a happy team, and, for the first time, a balanced life. I loved the program so much that four years later I bought the company. I am now on a mission to help dentists grow their practice and have a great life in this amazing industry.”

Dr. Toni strengthened the tradition of Momentum’s bespoke approach. She is proud of creating the most relationship-focused management practice in Australia and New Zealand.

Dentistry is a relationship business. Yes, we help you grow every facet of your business but it’s more than just the bottom line. We teach you to be a leader. We help you to read people, your patients and your staff so you see situations with crystal clarity and act wisely and consistently. This level of attentiveness builds you and your team’s reputation for being exceptional. Being a practicing dentist and having dental professionals on our team gives us credibility. Clients see that we’ve done it and know they can do it too. When people ask us why they should choose us, we explain that we care more.
