Relative Analgesia - Westmead Hospital Sydney

Overview

This course is ideal for the dental practitioner who has little or no experience in administering RA, but is also an excellent refresher for those wishing to update their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the delivery of dental RA.


Course Description

Nitrous Oxide sedation or Relative Analgesia remains a very useful tool in managing pain and anxiety in dental patients. This full day course will cover the pharmacology of nitrous oxide, communication in pain and anxiety management, and the art of administering RA for dentistry.


Participants will be given an opportunity to administer nitrous oxide sedation to each other, and to experience themselves the effects of RA. The current standards in armamentarium will be covered, and course notes will be provided.

Dr Cheng Yee Rossiter

BDS, FRACDS, GradDipDent (OS), GradDipClinDent (Conscious Sedation & Pain Management)

Dr Rossiter spent the early part of his career as a fleet dentist with the Royal Australian Navy. He had had a private general practice for many years. His special interests are in Oral Surgery, Sedation and Pain Management.

Currently Dr Rossiter is a senior dental officer at Westmead Centre for Oral Health and is part of the academic staff in the Department of Oral Surgery, School of Dentistry at the University of Sydney. He is also a member of the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology.

Dr Angelo Preketes

BDS, GradDipClinDent(Oral Implants), GradDipClinDent (Conscious Sedation & Pain Management)

Graduating in 1991 with Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sydney, Dr Angelo Preketes immediately moved into private practice. He later obtained Graduate Diplomas in Clinical Dentistry in the areas of Oral Implants, and Conscious Sedation and Pain Control.

Dr Preketes is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Dentistry, Australian Dental Association, Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology, Australian Society of Periodontology, Australian Osseointegration Society and Australian Society of Endodontics.

He is a Visiting Dental Officer at the Intravenous Sedation Department of Westmead Hospital with teaching responsibilities at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
