Prosthetic solution for partial and complete edentulous jaw on implant supported prostheses

Overview

Missing teeth can be rehabilitated with various options. Besides conventional removable prostheses and fixed prostheses, implant supported prostheses have been well documented with high success rate. Replacing single missing tooth with either screw retained or cemented implant supported crown has been shown comparative success rate. When replacement of missing teeth involves multiple units, it become relatively complicated. Fixed bridges on multi-units abutment on implants or implant supported partial over-denture are currently used to replace multiple missing teeth.

Rehabilitation of complete edentulous jaws with conventional removable dentures is less acceptable by patients, especially those patients wearing lower complete denture. Retention, support and stability of dentures are always compromised by heavily resorbed ridges. Replacing the missing teeth on complete edentulous jaws with fixed implant supported prostheses requires more careful assessment and planning. Numbers of implant used is always the question asked by operators. What is the minimal number of implant used to support a fixed prosthesis on complete edentulous upper and lower jaw? Removable over-denture supported on fewer implants with use of precision attachment can simplify the treatment procedures. Patients still find certain satisfaction to this type of prostheses.
