Dr Mark Bowes

Senior Lecturer

Dr Bowes is a progressive and well-respected dental practitioner. With a passion for minimally invasive treatments and innovation in implantology, his mission is to ensure tooth preservation. He is a leader in implementing Digital Smile Design in South Africa and is the only certified Intelligent Aligner Systems instructor on the continent. Dr Bowes has been a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists since 1997.

Before opening his Cape Town-based private practice, which specialises in Aesthetic and Complex Restorative Dentistry, Dr Bowes practised in London for 23 years and was a member of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry. Dr Bowes solidified his status as a prolific and accomplished dental practitioner in 2010, when he founded the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry for which he now serves as Past President.

He is also the founder and president of Digital Dentistry Society South Africa, an honorary global ambassador for Slow Dentistry, a global ambassador for Humble Smile Foundation and a Silver member of Style Italiano.

He currently runs restorative courses with the Implant & Aesthetic Academy in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.Pro

Dr Howard Gluckman

Director & Senior Lecturer

Dr Howard Gluckman is the Director of the Implant and Aesthetic Academy. Dedicated to sharing knowledge and sharpening the skills of other practitioners, Dr Gluckman is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the dental industry.

After completing his dental training at the University of Witwatersrand in 1990, he spent a few years in general practice before taking on a four-year degree in Oral Medicine and Periodontics at the University of Stellenbosch, which he completed with Distinction (Cum Laude).

Not one to rest on his laurels, Dr Gluckman recently completed his PhD titled “Partial Extraction Therapy: Past, Present and Future” (Summa Cum Laude) at the University of Szeged in Hungary, under the supervision of Professor Katalin Nagy.

Dr Riaan Wolfaardt

Senior Lecturer

Dr Wolfaardt has been in the dental industry for almost three decades, and currently forms part of the Implant and Aesthetic Academy’s lecture team, where he facilitates workshops on implant-related prosthodontics in the basic and intermediate implant courses.

In 1994, Dr Wolfaardt graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in dentistry and later received a diploma in dental implantology from the University of Stellenbosch in 2002. Not only did Dr Wolfaardt obtain his second implantology diploma from the Implant and Aesthetic Academy in 2011, he currently forms part of the lecture team.
