Dr Howard Gluckman
Director & Senior Lecturer
Dr Howard Gluckman is the Director of the Implant and Aesthetic Academy. Dedicated to sharing knowledge and sharpening the skills of other practitioners, Dr Gluckman is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the dental industry.
After completing his dental training at the University of Witwatersrand in 1990, he spent a few years in general practice before taking on a four-year degree in Oral Medicine and Periodontics at the University of Stellenbosch, which he completed with Distinction (Cum Laude).
Not one to rest on his laurels, Dr Gluckman recently completed his PhD titled “Partial Extraction Therapy: Past, Present and Future” (Summa Cum Laude) at the University of Szeged in Hungary, under the supervision of Professor Katalin Nagy.
Eager to shape the industry and help others expand their knowledge, Dr Gluckman became instrumental in the development of the University of Stellenbosch and the University of the Western Cape’s postgraduate Implantology Diploma.
In addition to running his full-time private practice in Cape Town, Dr Gluckman is also the co-founder and director of the Implant and Aesthetic. Over the last 15 years, the Academy has grown to become an internationally renowned institution that offers various accredited postgraduate dental courses
Dr Riaan Wolfaardt
Dr Wolfaardt has been in the dental industry for almost three decades, and currently forms part of the Implant and Aesthetic Academy’s lecture team, where he facilitates workshops on implant-related prosthodontics in the basic and intermediate implant courses.
In 1994, Dr Wolfaardt graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in dentistry and later received a diploma in dental implantology from the University of Stellenbosch in 2002. Not only did Dr Wolfaardt obtain his second implantology diploma from the Implant and Aesthetic Academy in 2011, he currently forms part of the lecture team.
Dr Jonathan du Toit
Dr Jonathan Du Toit is a training specialist in periodontics and oral medicine. He has written numerous dental journal articles and textbook chapters. In addition to serving on the review board for various review boards for several journals.
Initially enrolled at the University of Stellenbosch in 2000 for his dental degree, he first spent several years living abroad in South Korea, returning to again take up his studies and complete his BChD degree at the University of the Western Cape. He completed the Diploma in Oral Surgery (Dip Oral Surg) from the College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of South Africa, and the 2-year postgraduate certificate in oral implantology from the then University of Pretoria’s ITI Centre of Excellence. He concurrently completed a research Master’s degree (MSc Dent) in implantology at the University of the Witwatersrand. During the same time, he completed the Diploma in Implantology (Dipl. Implantol.) from the Implant and Aesthetic Academy/University of Frankfurt. He passed three rounds of primary subject examinations toward specialising (University of the Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, College of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery) and started his specialist degree and training in 2016 at the University of Pretoria in periodontics and oral medicine. He is an ITI study club co-director and is one of only two ITI scholars ever selected from South Africa.
